Most people don't know this, but if you hold crouch and press "E" on a prop, you can carry that prop with you without turning into it.
To then turn into the prop, all you have to do is drop it, press crouch again, and then press "E" on it.

One caveat is that walking around as a T-posed model while carrying a prop cuts your walk speed by about half. You also have to be mindful of doorways and bumping into objects that could make you lose grip on the prop you are carrying.
